This is my foreman, Mister Marin. He is not the kind of a “power-tripping” boss. He’s always joking and he even let me take a picture of him!

Have you ever wondered what was happening in the world the day you were born? I have many times… and now I know what was doing at least one person in the world: the day of my birth, this guy on the picture was hired at the company I am currently working for. He was hired on monday August 25th 1986, almost 22 years ago! And I was born the next day… When I told him that, he answered that he was suddenly feeling very old!
I work for a company that owns a chain of stores that sell many articles from prescription drugs to diapers including chocolate bars, food, cosmetics, etc. They own hundreds of stores in many Canadian provinces. But there is only one warehouse that does the distribution to all the stores. And this warehouse needs to work everyday 24/24. In the warehouse where I work, there are three work shifts: day, evening and night. My work shift starts at night at 11 pm and ends at 7 am. People who work on a dayshift work from 7 am to 3 pm and the ones on an evening shift work from 3 pm to 11 pm.
Let’s see what happens on a night shift:

David in the bus. He never manages to sleep during the day, so he always comes tired to work. It’s 10:20 pm, we are taking the bus, in fifteen minutes it will arrive to our destination. We will have to get out and walk to the warehouse for ten minutes… and then, eight hours of hard labor! For David, it’s always painful to work at night. After complaning himself about the downsides of capitalism that make possible and socially acceptable night shifts, he falls asleep leaning on the windows of the bus…

In the same bus, Georges, always carrying a can of energy drink, takes a little nap. He will soon drink this miracle drink that will allow him to stay awake all night…

…almost all night! The first break comes at 2 am. On the picture, you see, on the foreground, Georges sleeping after taking a cup of coffee (the second cup is mine!), and David in the background still cannot manage to keep his head up without the assistance of his arm leaning on the table!

The second break comes at 5 am. At this time, the ones who were not tired at the first break are becoming so! On the picture, you can see Basile with his hand on his face. He can’t wait for the shift to end!

Finally, he lies down and sleeps…

Another one laid on some chairs that he used as a bed.

And then, back to work, when you are too tired to lift boxes… why not lie on them and sleep? At 6 am, isn’t it ok to do so?

Bah, let’s put a second picture of him. At night, there are the ones who sleep at work and the ones who take pictures of them. Who is lazier?
